He completed the Gnessins Special Music School in 1999, where he studied under Vera Nossina. In the same year, he enrolled on the Moscow State Conservatory as a student of Prof. Lev Naumov, graduating with distinction in 2004. He went on to complete postgraduate studies at the Moscow Conservatory with Andrei Diev. He won the Second Open Competition for Young Pianists in Saint Petersburg in 1996. He has received an honourable mention at the Third International Tchaikovsky Youth Competition and been a winner of the International Music Forums in Athens (1996) and Paris (1998). He won an honourable mention and a special prize at the Second International Scriabin Competition in Moscow in 2000. He was a laureate of the Fourth International Horowitz Competition in Kiev in 2001 and a winner of the Fifth Sabitov Open Competition in Ufa in 2002. He was given an honourable mention at the Twelfth International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 2002, was a laureate of the International Competition Margaret Long - Jacques Thibaud in Paris in 2004 and won the Grand Prix of the Second International Balakirev Competition in Krasnodar in 2006.

Dombrovsky has given concerts in the UK, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Greece, Poland, Ukraine and in the main halls of Moscow, Saint Petersburg and other Russian cities.
