Here are biographies of 50 composers selected for the programme of the Competition.
The lists of compositions contain all the works found during the library research which meet the instrumental requirements of the Competition, including works which have hitherto been forgotten or which only exist in manuscript form.
Those items which can be purchased, rented or downloaded are attached with source references. Their availability can be found in the following bookmarks: ‘Chamber works’, ‘Piano works’ and ‘Works for piano and orchestra’ (only including the items selected for the final stage of the Competition) contained in the biography of each composer above the text.
The lists might be incomplete; therefore it will be acceptable to perform other compositions which will otherwise meet the requirements stipulated in the Rulebook of the Competition (regarding specific composers and specific types of compositions) and use alternative available sheet music (from legitimate sources).
The portal Polona and the University of Warsaw Library are valuable sources of scanned sheet music available for download free of charge, on account of the fact that the authors’ economic rights, protection period for editions of critical source materials and publishing rights have already expired. The sheet music from the public domain kept in the music collections of other Polish libraries can also be found at the website of the Digital Library Federation (Federacja Bibliotek Cyfrowych).
A rich selection of sheet music can be found at the Polish National Library (Biblioteka Narodowa), which also offers copy services. We also recommend contacting libraries around Poland to look for works written by the domestic composers. Numerous works by Polish composers, especially those written after 1946, are also kept at the Library of the Polish Composers’ Union.
The full lists of compositions was edited and prepared by Antoni Szymański.
