Renata Guzik – flute Sławomir Kokosza – piano The duo is part of a contemporary chamber music ensemble, the Ara Ensemble, which was set up in 1993 at the Contemporary Music Department of the Academy of Music in Kraków. Their repertoire is a cross-section of twentieth-century music, from Impressionism to Serialism and graphic music. The ensemble’s ambition is to promote chamber music written by Polish composers living in both Poland and abroad. As members of the Ara Ensemble, the musicians won the Contemporary Music Competition for Young Performers in Warsaw in 1994 and received a special prize for the best interpretation of Roman Haubenstock-Ramati’s work at the International Young Culture Competition in Düsseldorf in 1999. They have performed in concert in Denmark, the Netherlands and Germany. They have also appeared at festivals and music seminars, such as Write and Play, Andrzej Panufnik Music Days, Contemporary Music Meetings in Kraków, Warsaw Autumn Festival, Chamber Music Festival ‘Muzyka na Szczytach’ in Zakopane, the Polish Chamber Music Conference in Szczecin, Piano Forum in Basel, Fête de la Musique in Paris and Arts Festival Dimension in Seoul. Earlier this year, the Duo AraE recorded an album with compositions by Piotr Perkowski, Adam Walaciński, Leszek Wisłocki and Michał Gronowicz.
