Cultural activist, educator, pianist. Creator, director and master of the International Piano Forum ‘Bieszczady Without Frontiers’ (‘Bieszczady bez granic’) in Sanok. As part of the Forum, he organises the Master School of Piano Teaching and the International Piano Competition ‘Young Virtuoso’ (‘Młody Wirtuoz’). He is vice-president of the Podkarpacka Foundation for the Development of Culture and director of the National Training Institute (Narodowy Instytut Kształcenia) in Sanok. He has also organised such events as the Wawer Music Festival in Warsaw, the European Festival of the Music Academies in Warsaw and the International Master Competition for Music Teachers.
Janusz Ostrowski has been a recurrent member of the juries of the National Piano Festival ‘Alla Pollacca’ in Warsaw, the International Chopin Competition in Vilnius, the Sacred Song Competition ‘He Who Sings Prays Twice’ (‘Kto śpiewa dwa razy się modli’) in Sanok, the International Master Competition for Music Teachers and preliminary rounds in Sanok for the Carol Competition (Konkurs Kolęd) in Będzin.
He has been involved in a number of cultural activities in the city of Sanok, including the choir Adoramus, which he founded and directed, the piano section of the Wanda Kossakowa State School of Music and sessions of music therapy for the Group Therapy Workshops. He has also worked as an organist at the Parish Church in Sanok, contributing to the promotion of sacred music in the heart of the city. His former students include recipients of scholarships awarded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, and winners of piano competitions and festivals.
He has graduated from the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź, Instrumental Department, where he studied piano with Prof. Anita Krochmalska (1992 – 1997), and completed postgraduate studies of education management at the University of Rzeszów. He is also a graduate of the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz (Choirmaster Studies) and the National Centre for Culture in Warsaw.
In recognition of his activities and accomplishments, Janusz Ostrowski has been awarded the City of Sanok Prize, the Prize of the Director of the Centre for Artistic Education, the ‘Friend of Children’ Medal from the Friends of Children Society (Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Dzieci), an honorary diploma from the Mykola Lysenko National Academy of Music in Lviv and the Medal for Merit to Polish Culture.
